Since this feature is quickly becoming the most popular way to consume media, it is likely that even more platforms will join the trend and enable this feature in the future. There are a few things you should keep in mind when creating short form videos. Whether it be how long the video should be, the landscape, what settings you have put in place on your videos, and the way you design the content. Below are some characteristics that build a great short form video.

  • Short length: keep your video under 10 minutes long, the shorter the better! 1-4 minutes is the sweet spot!
  • Vertical Orientation: Make sure you’re filming your videos in a vertical landscape
  • Designed for sharing: make sure your videos have the correct settings to be able to share on any platform
  • Concise: Make sure your videos are concise, to the point and have a clear message!

Ideas for SFV

Now for the most fun part of creating short form videos, the content! This is your time to shine! So find out what your niche is, who your audience is, and what kind of content you want to create. Content can be produced in many different forms and played out in many different ways. Below is a list of video ideas that can help make your viral moment come to life!

  • Story-times – Funny stories. Try to keep these safe for work if you can BUT don’t be afraid to talk about the industry you work in!
  • Vlogs – Try filming behind the scenes moments, a day in the life, or a day off vlog.
  • Follow trends – Use sounds, audios and music that is viral on your SFV platforms.
  • Questions for audience – Ask about something or bring up topics that will produce engagement.
  • Product Reviews/Unboxings – Cater to your audience by using things they would be interested in.
  • Thirst traps – After all, we are in an industry with fans who love the way we look!

SEO on SFV

Search Engine Optimization is an extremely important part of marketing in today’s world, and SFV’s are no exception. Using SEO on your short form videos is crucial! This is how your audience and viewers outside your audience are going to find your content!

A great way to implement SEO into your short form videos is through key words. Here are some places you can insert key words into your short form videos:

  • Video Title – Use key words in the titles of your videos or the on screen text that you add to them.
  • Narration – If you are narrating your video or talking to the camera, add in those key words!
  • Caption – This is a great place to sum up what you’re talking about with key words and a description.
  • Hashtags – The simplest form of SEO on social media!
  • Thumbnails – If you create thumbnails for your videos, make sure a caption with keywords is visible on your grid for your page.

Post Frequently

As the way that most algorithms work, the  more you post, the more organic engagement you will generate. If you can, post 1 SFV a day! If you aren’t comfortable with that, try to aim for 3-4 times a week! This will help your organic growth tremendously.

Tip: make time for content days to film videos in advance so you can stockpile them and schedule them out!

Remember that whatever video styles you do, be confident and have fun with it. don’t be afraid to post!
