social media 2026

Introduction

With algorithms and trends always changing, it is very important to stay updated on all of the latest things changing on the platforms you are using, especially if you are trying to grow your pages. This presentation will go through some of this year’s newest updates so you can stay on top of the algorithm and take charge of all of the latest trends!

SEO On The Rise

Hashtags are DYING! Most platforms are limiting or phasing out hashtags in content. While hashtags are not as useful on most platforms currently, key words are essential! But now, Meta has launched an update that allows search engines to crawl public photos and videos on Instagram and Facebook; meaning that posts on Meta platforms will now join posts from TikTok, YouTube and Reddit in Google search results. This will not affect most users as it will be more for large brands, but it is good to be mindful of!

YouTube Shorts

YouTube shorts have been gaining a lot more popularity as a SFV platform just like TikTok and Instagram Reels, but now they will begin featuring carousels. You can post multi-photo content on the app now. Shorts can be anywhere from a few seconds to 3 minutes long. And they can gain a lot of traction when used consistently. If you are not utilizing YouTube shorts yet, you should be!

TikTok’s New Boss

As you may know, TikTok is under new ownership and have sold a large portion of the company to US owners. The platform itself will look and work the same, but there are some user privacy changes happening behind-the-scenes. It can now collect certain data differently, like more precise location information if you allow it, the company can track how people interact with AI tools in the app and use that info for things like advertisements. There are also many more things being censored right now on the app, so stay cautious!

AI Generated Content

Unfortunately, AI content is only becoming bigger, and many brands are choosing to use it for content and advertisements. There is also a rise of AI creators, which is making it hard for certain users to be able to tell the difference, this includes adult AI creators. Fortunately, there are certain platforms like Instagram who say they are working on technology that will specifically distinguish when content is created with AI and notify users, so they’re able to tell the difference. Hopefully other platforms do the same!

Connection & Humanity

While we are in the midst of the rise of AI, connection and humanity are more important than ever. Studies are finding that social media users are valuing content like story-times, vlogs, what-I-do-in-a-days, and more humanizing content. Users are really craving that connection with the creators that they follow, so being authentic right now is the key to success! You can talk about what a day in your life for your job looks like, a get ready with me vlog, or a funny story-time (that is SFW of course). Most importantly, remember that being yourself is your superpower!

Best Tips For This Year

  • Stay authentic, no one can recreate YOU
  • Keep up with the latest trends, sounds and audios! If you can be on top of the newest trends, you will see the results in return
  • Stay consistent, that is the key to growth and success
  • Remember that all platforms will always favor user activity! So engage, interact and play with the platform features as much as you can!
